Not Such a Good Start

Yes, I realize it is only the beginning of both of my "challenges" and I should be gung ho and doing great, but I have to admit I didn't do so great yesterday. As far as the Wii Active Challenge is concered I am right on track doing everything I am supposed to do...It was my first day of "rest" and I got the day off. YIPPEE!!! But today it is back at it. I plan to do my workout in a little while...I must wait at least 30 minutes after eating. Oh wait, that's wait 30 minutes before swimming after eating. I know that I should wait a little while after lunch, but there is nothing like putting off exercise as long as you have an excuse!!

So, since I was off from the Active, the only thing I could have slipped on was the water challenge. The day started off great. I got up fixed me a nice big glass of water and it sat there, and sat there, and sat there. Never got drank. Sad, I know. I did end up drinking two small glasses of water yesterday but I also drank 2 diet cokes. This should be the easy one to stick with. :(

Today is another day and I plan to get back on track with the water. So far I have done good...one glass of water and no caffiene. Go Me!!

Please leave me comments and tell me (inexpensive) ways you reward yourself.

My Comeback (Tour) Entry

I know, I know it has been a while since I blogged but I have decided to make a comeback. Since everyone missed me so much I have decided to give blogging another try. So here it goes.....

One of the things that brought me back to the blogging world is my new challenge that I began Saturday. Saturday I began the Wii Active 30 day challenge. I am so excited that I made it to my first day of rest in the program. Yes, I realize that I have only done 2 days of my program but it said that day 3 was a day of rest. I was a little unsure about the Wii Active since I have the Wii Fit and didn't really get the results I was hoping for. I enjoy the Wii Fit but don't feel like it is a workout. Well, I can say that after 2 days I am sore!! Hopefully this will be the one program I stick with.

Another challenge I started was the Crystal Light Challenge. Technically it is the Great Value Challenge since the Great Value brand was $2 cheaper than Crystal Light. I am addicted to diet coke so I am trying to drink more water. Anyone want to join me?

I am really hoping that working out with the Wii Active and the water challenge I will see positive results. I will keep you posted!

Book Reviews

I know Spring is here and if you are anything like me, you do most of your reading during winter, but I have to share with ya'll several books I have read lately.

Light from Heaven - This is the last of the Mitford books written by Jan Karon. Although I love Father Tim and Jan Karon I put off this book as long as possible because I just didn't want them to end! Again Father Tim did not disappoint and I loved Light from Heaven. I believeone reason I enjoyed this book so much is because it sortof reminded me of where my Mamaw lives and could very well be a church near her. Throughout this series I have really gotten attached to Dooley and I love how he has grown up. I also like discovering his siblings. I know some of you may not have finished this book yet (Serah) so I won't give away any more details. After everyone has read it we will have to discuss the ending. I have heard lots of mixed feelings on it.

At Home in Holly Springs - This books was really enjoyable. It was neat to relate to several of the places in this book. I am so glad that Jan Karon has decided to carry on Father Tim and his family. I never imaged reading about an Episcopal preacher could be so entertaining. I was glad to get back to Father Tim's hometown and find some of the people we have read about in the Mitford books. If any of you have finished reding this book, let me know what you think....there has to be a sequel.....maybe a whole new series. Definitely a must read!!

Ms Julia Speaks Her Mind - When I found the Ms Julia series I was hoping to find another series to begin reading. For some reason Ms Julia did not do it for me. She was funny and it wasn't a bad read, but I don't think I will rush out and get the next Ms. Julia book.

Marley and Me - 2 years ago my dad got a yellow lab for Christmas and he also got Marley and Me since it is a story of a man and his lab. Since he is not a huge fan of reading for pleasure, it took him about a year to decide to read Marley. After he went on and on about how good it was, I knew I must read it. I fell in love with Marley on the first page!! I laughed throughout the entire book. When I got near the end I stopped reading for a few days because I didn't want it to end. This book has definitely made it to one of my all time favorite books. I encourage everyone to read it (dog lover or not). I have heard this book will be made into a movie soon. Let me know if you decide to read or have read Marley and Me.

Playing for Pizza - I must admit that I am not a huge John Grisham fan but I decided to read this one because it was not the typical lawyer book. I did enjoy this book, but it was not one of my favorites. I was worth reading, but would not rush out to get this one.

Please send some suggestions for my next book......

Rate My Space

Ok, so I am addicted to HGTV and Rate My Space. If you have never been to Rate My Space it allows people to upload pictures of thier homes and outdoor spaces so others can get ideas, give the owner ideas, or just look at other peoples homes. I have been trying to get pictures of our house on here for a while now and I finally got them posted. While I still want to put the kitchen and outdoor area on here, the living room is a start. I am so excited!!! Please pray that I don't become as addicted as my mom. She has posted many pictures of her house and garden areas. Her and a friend are even making plans to attend HGTV's Rate My Space Premier Party in New Orleans.

If you would like to "rate my space", do a search for Melissa_in_MS.
My mom can be found at vikmoo.

27.....

The official countdown has begun. There are only 27 more days of school left!!!! Yippee. I can't wait for summer vacation. Not that I don't love the little darlings telling me everyday how beautiful I am, but a few weeks off will be nice. Notice I said a few weeks. The summers are getting shorter and shorter. Teachers will start back to work on Aug 1st. I really wouldn't mind year round school but the long break is nice so that I can get lots of things ready for the next school year. I have already started my summer to-do list for things I would like to make and books I would like to read before next school year. Last week I just applied for the renewal of my teacher's licensure. I can't believe I have already been teaching 5 years!! Only 20 more to go until retirement. :)

Well, it is time for the Biggest Loser finale. I can't believe how different these people look at the end. I would love to go on Biggest Loser. Anybody want to be my partner??

Is New York ready for Ronnie?

Ok, I guess I am a little jealous....Tomorrow morning my parents are going to New York. Each time I think about my dad getting in that taxi for the first time I double over in hysterics. And he thinks my driving is bad!!! I wish I could be a stowaway and see his face. I was sure to catch them up on the Cash Cab and make sure they call me when they need a shout out! Daddy said he was not spending his whole time shopping. I can picture him now sitting on a little bench inside Macy's holding all the shopping bags. I don't think Daddy has eaten in a few days....he says he is waiting for the hot dogs and pizza. Enjoy Broadway, have lots of fun, and please.....no T-Shirt with the state map of New York.

Struggling....

Ok, so I see I have a few faithful followers who read my post and will comment. Other than those faithful few I am not sure anyone wants to take the time out of their busy lives to read what I have to blog about. So the last few days I have been wanting to blog but each time I go to do it I can't think of a thing to write about. Since I don't have any cutesy little babies to show off and we don't lead exciting drama filled lives, I am really struggling on finding things to say that won't put everyone to sleep.

Help!!

Spring has almost Sprung

I know spring has officially arrived, but I am ready for full blown Spring!! First of all the arrival of spring means that school is amost over (2 months to be exact). Also I can start getting the flower beds ready for warm weather. I love seeing them colorful and pretty after all that hard work. Philip and I are planning on starting our nightly walks tonight, so more talk time with him. Finally, it is time for flipflops!!! The Easter bunny brought me some great new black flipflops. I can't wait to wear them as I walk down the beach. The beginning of spring also means that I must begin to think about swimwear....UGH!! I say every year that I am going on a major diet so that I can get a cute new bathsuit. This year I am simply going to say that I am going to get healthy (diet is leaving my vocabulary). Afterall, the health assessment required by my insurance company said that I was in great shape. I would hate for the insurance company to tell a lie. :)

Happy Spring.

Sunday Mornings

Why does it seem like it always takes twice as long to get dressed and out of the house on Sunday mornings? Today was no exception. Instead of the usual 10 minutes it normally takes to dry my hair this morning it took me 15. Nothing was working out like it should. During the weekday I decide what I am going to wear and that is usually what I wear. Sundays I change my mind at least 10 times. By the time I choose an outfit there are more clothes piled on the bed than left hanging in the closet. Am I the only person who has this problem? Sunday is the only day that Philip and I are getting dressed at the same time and we both have our set routine in the mornings so Sundays we interfere with each other's routine. By the time we leave for church on Sunday mornings I have either had a major meltdown or I am need of a 3 hour nap.

God Bless Sunday mornings!!

Getting Older

Now that I have been 3o for two months I thought I would share my thoughts on this milestone. A few people told me that their 30th birthday was horrible and all they did was sick around and feel sorry for theirself because they were getting older. Well, turning 30 didn't bother me. I never really thought about getting "old".....until one month after my birthday. It all started in the middle of February. I was so excited because I had managed to stay relatively healthy while being around sick children who want you to constantly look down their throat. Healthy didn't last long. When the flu hit, it hit hard. I thought I was the living dead. The house smelled like sickness and I didn't care!! Philip did a great job taking care of me and didn't even mind holding my hair why I got sick. After a week of doing nothing but sleeping and gripping cause I was tired of being sick, I was finally over the flu. During the next two weeks I noticed that my body was not functioning normal so I contacted the dr and he set me up with a gastro dr. Well, needless to say I have inherited the lovely gastro problems and the dr. wanted to do a colonoscopy to check everything out. Hang on a minute, I thought I turned 30, not 50. Needless to say I went ahead and now everything in my body that was not functioning properly is now back to normal thanks to medication. I was so excited to wake up this morning and feel like a normal 30 year old person, not a little old lady with a list of her medications in her purse. So those of you who are about to turn 30 (Jeanine) and those of you who have a few years, turning 30 isn't so bad...just give it a month.

One Year Anniversary

Philip and I had our one year anniversary this week. I can't believe we have been married a year already!! Since I was off for spring break we had the whole day together. We spent the afternoon getting massages at Massage Therapy Worx in Southaven and then we went out for a nice dinner. Everyone says the first year of being married is the hardest. Since we have only been married one year I have nothing to compare it too, but I will say it is definitely an adjustment!! Everyone knows that I am terribly spoiled. Since Mamaw passed away, Jacob has taken over the arm pats and calling me "Doll", Daddy would still make our bed if we let him, and Philip, well, let's just say his favorite saying is "It's all about Melissa." Because of my bratiness and I have to work on remembering that there is someone else to think about now. I can say that this year had been the best year and I know we will have many more anniversaries. Philip says we will be newlyweds forever! :) I love you Philip.

By the way, if you are thinking about pampering yourself you should try Massage Therapy Worx. They are great!! Currently they have a special for new clients, buy one message and get one free for a friend. Also if you are Desoto Co School employee, they are a perks member.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Ok, Here it goes.

Well, after dodging the online world for as long as I could and after much convincing from Philip and Daddy that I have way too much wisdom to just share with them, I have decided to start my own blog. I am staying away from myspace since I have at least ten third graders ask me daily if I have a myspace page. If they want to find me here, they will have to do a little searching. :) I am sure that now I have decided to start blogging, it will go out of style (sortof like when I finally learned to tight roll my pants in sixth grade). When discussing the blogging idea with Philip he asked what I would name it. That is where I came up with Just Melissa. This is Just Melissa. My thoughts, feelings, and any other profound words of wisdom I decide to share. Philip says I chose the name because as he likes to say, "It's all about Melissa." In a way I guess this sort of is all about me. :) Well I hope you enjoy my blogs and will visit often (if nothing else, to make me think you like it). Enjoy!!
